Spring Travel Inspiration
Spring is well and truly upon us — the sun has come out and the weather is heating up. The southern hemisphere has some amazing countries worth visiting, and this time of the year provides a great opportunity for travel, given that it is not a peak tourist season.
If you are in need of a break, here is a list of countries that are beautiful in the spring.
Argentina
There is so much to do in Argentina, such as exploring national parks or enjoying the sights in Buenos Aries. During September, Iguazu Falls are at full capacity and they are even bigger and more captivating than Niagara Falls.
There are options to take a helicopter over the top for a full panoramic view, or you can ride a speedboat through the falls. There are also plenty of walking trails to allow you to fully appreciate them. If you are going to take the time to check these out, make sure you also head to the Brazilian side for the full experience.
Further south, the Patagonian lake district features wildflowers in full bloom at this time of the year. There are also small picturesque towns and hiking opportunities through the Andes mountain range.
Buenos Aries is of course not to be missed. In spring, the city boasts sunny weather, with purple jacaranda trees lining the streets. The buildings seem more colourful than ever. Visit historical buildings, museums, parklands and boutique shops here. Watch a traditional tango, enjoy an Argentinian barbeque and try some traditional mate tea.
Chile
The Patagonian lake district extends over the border into Chile, so if you have the chance, try and visit both sides. The Chilean part features numerous national parks, lagoons and even volcanoes. After a day of hiking, you can relax your muscles in one of the area’s natural hot springs.
Santiago offers wisteria trees in full bloom, sunny weather — perfect conditions to enjoy a Chilean wine tasting in the central valley. The lush greenery contrasts against the still snow-capped mountains in the background to create breathtaking scenery at this time of the year.
New Zealand
Closer to home, New Zealand is a destination that should not be forgotten about. During September the weather begins to warm up in preparation for summer. It is a great time to explore national parks and follow hiking trails as it is not too hot, and the flowers, such as bluebells and daffodils, are all in full bloom. It is also the best season to view waterfalls, or if you are feeling adventurous, to go white water rafting.
During spring, you may see orcas, whales and dolphins frolicking in the Hauraki Gulf, near Auckland. If you decide to take a road trip, you are likely to see young lambs laying in the pastures and ripe fruit trees. The higher mountains are still covered in snow, so it is generally still possible to go skiing.
Mauritius
September marks the month of the lowest amount of rainfall for this island, so it is a great time to visit if you want to soak up the sun on the beach. There are some beautiful bays and inlets worth exploring to see their coral reefs and sea life.
Given the terrain is fairly mountainous in some parts of the island, you can experience nature while embarking on one of the hiking trails. There are also volcanoes and ancient ruins that are worth visiting during your stay.
Fiji
This is also one of the best months for visiting Fiji. The weather is warm and sunny, so perfect for relaxing on the beach or taking a stroll through the markets. If you are feeling more adventurous, take to the clear waters to go snorkelling or diving. Fiji is made up of hundreds of islands so there is no shortage of beautiful spots to uncover.
There are also several rainforests to check out that are teeming with birdlife and natural pools at the bottom of waterfalls. These make the perfect places to relax and cool down after a jungle trek.
If you are interested in history and culture there are also archaeological sites, museums, forts, and temples to visit.
