How to Pack for a Business Trip
Packing to go away on a business trip can be really difficult. On one hand you want to be prepared for a conference or boardroom meetings, as well as any social engagements. On the other-hand, you do not want to overpack.
The challenge is to fit everything into a carry-on bag as this way you do not waste time at the baggage carousel after your flight. You also will not run the risk of the airline temporarily misplacing your luggage.
Tip #1: Pack outfits rather than individual pieces of clothing
When travelling anywhere, it is best to prepare outfits, rather than to pack items individually. The last thing you want to do is open your suitcase to find you have packed a lot of clothes but have nothing to wear.
Instead, pack outfits according to occasion so you know all your garments go together. This will make it easier to get dressed in the mornings and it will ensure you do not pack items that you do not need.
Tip #2: Build your outfits around bulky items
Bulky items such as coats and big jackets take up a lot of space. Try and bring only one coat or jacket (or one of each if you need them) and build your outfits around these items.
For example, a tailored blazer in a neutral coat colour will suit your corporate outfits. If it is going to be really cold, you may need to bring a coat. Try and pack one in a simple style and neutral colour so it goes with all your outfits.
If possible, it is best if you wear your bulky items on the plane to save precious baggage space.
Tip #3: Limit the number of shoes you pack
Shoes can also take up a lot of room in your suitcase. Packing a lot of pairs will make your bag significantly heavier than it needs to be. It is best to bring one pair of shoes that is versatile enough to match any outfit and occasion throughout your business trip.
